You’ve probably had an experience whereby you need design work, you’ve called a design guy, asked them for an estimate then nearly feel off your chair when you’ve seen the quote. It’s a common problem that small businesses tend to overlook and undervalue professional design work, well, here are six reasons why any small business should make graphic design a priority.

Have you asked an employee, or someone in the marketing department, or even started searching online for “cheaper” options for design solutions only to be unhappy with the results. Designers understand that sharp, effective, well-thought-out graphic design is the difference between a small business blending into the crowd and it singing from the rooftops!

1. First impressions truly count

You know what they say about first impressions, you only have one chance. Think about how your customers find and engage with your business, is it your web site? an email signature? paid advertising? wherever they see you, they will judge your business in just a few seconds based on visual representation alone.

Good quality design gives a business credibility and trust, you could be selling gold but if you look like a hack them people will question your authenticity. Think about the last time you looked for a particular product or service, there’s a good chance first impressions guided you to your result because after all you couldn’t have known everything about that business before you found them right?

2. Think creativity when differentiating

All small businesses have one thing in common; competition. Whether it’s the well established brands of the industry or the saturation of small businesses all fighting over the same thing, competition is competition.

So, how do you differentiate yourself from the competitors? A creative mind is a key part in differentiating a business and making it stand out from the crowd. Quality design, creative communication and engaging advertising play huge roles in interacting with customers. If you are in front of your customers you are ahead of your competitors.

3. Great design can convert

Your website is like a treasure map, you want your customer to find the ‘X’ that marks the spot. Design isn’t just about looking pretty it’s about being effective; effective design is the pathway to the ‘X’, and done right it makes the hunt foe the treasure very easy to find.

A smart, beautifully-crafted, well-designed website attracts, engages and persuades customers to take action and customers that take action make businesses money. High-end design services have the ability to deliver positive results online and offline.

4. Spending more up front saves time and money in the long run.

When you don’t invest in graphic design at the beginning you will pay for it in the end. Think about hiring a plumber to fix your car, he could know a bit about cars to get the job done but, it’s going to take him three times as long and it there’s a high probability something else could go wrong.

Quality design is proven to have longevity and paying for awesome design just once time, is not as expensive as paying for very average design over and over and over again! Let’s not even get into rebranding, not doing this right could cost you a small fortune!
